Sali began sculpting in mid-life when she took a class and realized that she always ‘knew’ how to sculpt, but just didn’t know she knew how. When she discovered ‘clay’ she knew she had found the medium that allowed her to express her understanding of the human form. The photo of her son (see photo gallery) was one of her first works. In the photo of her standing with a bust, the bust depicts her rendition of her great, great, great grandfather, George Yount. The bust now resides in the city offices of Yountville, California. Recently she studied under Philippe Ferout and is excited about the new possibilities that study is bringing to her work. As a member of San Diego Sculptors Guild, Sali regularly sculpts at the studio. She holds an office on the Board of Directors at the Guild, and is active in the day-to-day events at the studio.
Dalai Lama
Bronze, edition of 3 - 12"h x 8"d
My inspiration for this piece came from a seminar I attended in which the Dalai Lama was the principal speaker. Being in his presence was a life changing event. Eventually, I came up with the idea of producing a likeness of him while encompassing the Buddha Within. The bust rotates 360 degrees to allow viewer to see both the Buddha within and HH Dalai Lama. It is easily placed in a nook, in front of a mirror, or on a pedestal.
